What Does It Mean To Be Saved?

By Tami Kennedy l Director of Ministry

God is so amazing! He gave us Life, He gave us His Son. He gave us His Word. He placed His Spirit within us. And then He said, accept My Son, Learn from My Word, and live your life by my Spirit. There it is. Everything we need for the life that He gave us!!

This life is hard. It’s even harder when we aren’t doing it God’s way!

Most people, at least around here anyway, have heard of Jesus. Most people have seen Him on a cross around someone’s neck or said His name in anger while yelling at the kids. Maybe that’s you. Maybe you’ve heard of Him but never encountered Him in a real and meaningful way. So, if that is you, here’s what you need to know:

·        He is the Son of the one and only Holy God. He died in YOUR place on that cross. You (and me and everyone else) are sinners, lost and without hope. We were born into sin the same way the child of a slave would be a slave today (sad but true). Because of our sin, we have no way to have a relationship with a Holy God. So, Jesus came into the world and allowed Himself to be killed as the payment for our sin. That payment for our sin was God’s gift to us. Now here is the issue…

·        We MUST accept that gift. The Bible says that “all have sinned” and that the “wages of sin is death” (what we earned for our sin is ultimate death and separation from God) but that “the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus”. Not through the Church, not through some rituals that you might have gone through, not through baptism, not through being good enough or doing enough of the right things. ONLY through Jesus. The Bible says that if you “confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved”. It goes on to say that “Whoever calls upon the name of the Lord, shall be saved.

I don’t really want to be controversial here, I just want to tell you what the Bible says. There has to be a decision made to accept Christ. It is impossible to say “I’ve always been a Christian” or “I’ve always believed” and have that count for salvation. The Bible says that the demons believe and tremble. You must realize that Jesus is Lord, and sincerely want Him to be Lord of your life, believe that He was raised from the dead and confess these things with your mouth. This takes realizing that you are a sinner in need of a Savior. I mean, if you don’t think you need it, why would you make the decision? If you realize you are in need of trusting Christ as your Savior, you can do that right now, wherever you are. If you make that decision, and say a prayer acknowledging Him as Lord of your life, I would love to hear from you. I will help you get plugged into a Bible believing/teaching church so that you can learn more about God and all that He promises to do with your life.

Life is hard but when we do things God’s way, we have help. He won’t keep us from all of life’s difficulties but he will be there to comfort and guide, bless and protect.

If you haven’t accepted Him and you still aren’t sure about all of this, talk to someone that can help you work through it. Jesus Loves YOU, right where you are, with all of your faults and weaknesses, no matter what you’ve done, regardless of where you’ve been…He loves YOU.
