History

Cypress Fellowship was placed upon the hearts of David and Tami Kennedy long before it was actually born.  Several years ago while living in Conroe, David felt God was leading him to begin a ministry in the Copperfield/Northwest Houston area. The Lighthouse Family Church was begun with several families. While David knew God was leading him in this direction, the correct foundation was not in place and The Lighthouse did not experience the necessary growth. After about a year, the church body came to the understanding that it was not God’s timing and they decided to close the doors. What looked like a failure was actually a blessing in disguise because of the vital lessons learned.  A few months later several families from The Lighthouse and other friends came together with the Kennedys in the firm belief that God was leading them to begin a new ministry. After many months of planning and prayer, Cypress Fellowship was planted and the core group began meeting in August, 2001.  In the early months, a neighboring church allowed Cypress Fellowship to use their facilities on Saturday evenings. Despite being unable to meet on Sundays, Cypress Fellowship was blessed with visitors and new members.  The church was chartered on January 26, 2002. As the faithful members of this new work continued in prayer and service, God blessed and provided the means financially to rent space.  In March, 2002, Cypress Fellowship began meeting Sunday mornings at Arnold Middle School.  After almost two years, the school district notified us of plans to remodel and required us to relocate.  The church moved to Copeland Elementary School in January, 2004. Shortly after, a new CFISD regulation limited anyone us from remaining any school building in the district more than three years.  The deadline for Cypress Fellowship to relocate again was the Summer of 2006. The membership began to give through our new “Faith Promise Building Fund” and leased space at Huffmeister Plaza in March, 2006.  The membership spent four months building out our space and moved our services in June!  This new space provided a stable location and the church experienced a steady, strong growth. Out of room again, God lead the congregation to yet another move.  In March, 2009 Cypress Fellowship leased 11,000sf at the corner of Spring Cypress and Telge. After many months of hard work we moved in on July 5, 2009.

We have now grown from the original 25 members to over 200 members.  Our ministries have expanded to include women’s ministries, single’s ministries, counseling ministries, outreach ministries, prayer ministries, multiple small groups, the Praise team, many Sunday morning bible study classes (encompassing Pre-K to adults) and an active and growing student ministry.

Jesus Christ is our reason for being and as long as we seek His will and continue to share His message with this community, we will continue to be “A Real Church, With Real People, Offering  Real Hope.”
