"And they devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers." Acts 2:42
Acts 2:42 (ESV) says, "And they devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers." It appears the apostles were teaching in the temple courts on Sunday, and the people were studying their teachings in greater depth in their homes. As they did so, the people grew in spiritual maturity. Each week our home groups review the Sunday morning sermon then enter into further biblical study, discussion and/or fellowship.
Acts 2:46 (ESV) "And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts..." The early church gathered together in homes to eat and develop relationships with one another.
They devoted themselves “to the breaking of bread and to prayer” and they were “praising God” (Acts 2:42, 47). These early home groups participated in communion and worshiped together.
Acts 2:47. " praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved." These home groups in Acts were a microcosm of the greater church. They were fulfilling the five purposes of the church: worship, fellowship, discipleship, ministry, and evangelism.
